Noises problem
1999 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Automatic 150000 miles

The car has been driving increasing louder, sounding like a truck with rough tires or with near flat tires.

Are the tires in good shape and not cupped? Does the sound change when turning?

The problem is not the tires or the alignment. It's a drive train noise. The engine and the transmission act fine. Could it be a torque converter? Thank you

I would lean more toward a wheel bearing than the torque converter. Does the noise change at all when turning?

You asked if the noise varied when turning - Not that I could notice. The wheel bearing does sound like a possibility, since the car seems normal in all other respects. Any other possibilities? It's loud enough, but not a whine or gravelly.

On this type of car, that is my first guess. The torque converter would change pitch with RPM's.
