1999 Ford Taurus First SPEEDOMTER quits working..then O/D O

Engine Performance problem
1999 Ford Taurus Two Wheel Drive Automatic

First the speedometer quits working. Then the O/D OFF light comes on in the RPM gauge. Then, the engine lunges, slow to excellerate. I looked in my manual, no mention of a O/D indication light.

flashing OD light is an indication for a present codes in the T CM
and since the speedometer is not working 1st should suspect and check VSS (vehicle speed sensor)
check for codes
