1999 Ford Taurus Brake Pedal Hard

It is hard to brake my vehicle. I have to press really hard on the brake pedal but I do come to a stop. Also, there does not feel like the pedal has moved very much. There are no brake indicator lights on the instrument panel.

Do you have check engine light on
check for vacuum leaks

with engine off
pump brake paddle 4 to 5 times and hold it down
start the engine does the paddle go down as engine starts
it should if not check for vacuum leaks
check brake booster vacuum source
check and suspect booster
