1998 Ford Taurus transmission or linkage ?

please help !!
my car starts but when you put it in any gear, it will not move. there is no noise , just won't go anywhere . we hooked it up to a computer and it said , check linkage , does this linkage have a censer in it to tell the transmission what to do ? or is my transmission fried ? thank you for any help.

Place the shifter in drive and try to start if it dose shifter links need to checked
or and also place the shifter in neutral try to push the car does it move if not suspect link shifter
if it does move suspect internal tranny failure
