Transmission problem
1998 Ford Taurus 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 200K miles

I was driving home, and a stopped at a stop sign. And when I went to take off, my car wouldn't go. The car was still running. But it wouldn't drive. My parents came and helped me move my car off out of the way, When a tow truck came and picked up my car.

I just bought my car at the start of the summer from an older lady. The lady told me when I bought the car from her that she just had the trans rebuilt 10K miles ago. I dont know if she really did, or if she was just saying that.

The car was driving just fine all the way up to that stop sign. It just wouldn't drive forward out of nowhere.

No funny noises, grinding, or anything.

Once my car came home, I did check the trans fluids, they were low. I filled them, and nothing.

I did try to put my car in reverse, and it worked just fine. So the reverse works, but I can't drive forward.

Please help me.
I know nothing about cars, and I'm flat broke.
So I don't want to pay to take it to the shop, if it is something that my dad and I can fix.

Thank you for your help.

Possibilities and check list if No Forward Engagement, Reverse Okay
Check fluid level, drive axles, shift linkage, low internal pressure, oil pump external or internal (support sealing rings) leakage, filter or filter seal, valve body malfunction (gasket damaged or off location, stuck regulator valve, 3-4 shift valve, forward clutch control valve and 2-3 servo regulator valve), forward clutch assembly, low one-way clutch, low intermediate servo assembly and output shaft.

So if tranny fluids is OK ,axles and shifter links OK tranny must come out for replace or rebuilt
