1998 Ford Taurus Heater stays on

Heater problem
1998 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

The heater on my wife's taurus stays on. I know I can disconnect heater hoses from the heater core and connect the hoses together, but is there an easier fix?
