1998 Ford Taurus V8 Automatic 102000 miles

I just got a car that has been sitting for quite some time. There was no exact problem when the car was not being used. Currently it will not start. Is there any in general engine problems that could be causing this?

does the engine crank
and if so have to check fuel and spark
if it doesnt crank check battery and terminals
check engine oil
