had the altenator load tested and it was done for. Coming home to change it out, the car was sputtering, could get no RPM's - going was very slow . Barely got it home. Smoke rolling out from under the engine, power steering failed. Did I hurt my engine? also needed a jump on a new battery @ the place we got thenew altenator, will I now need a new battery too?

Hi there, get your battery fully charged and then have a load test done on it, this will show up any battery problems, if it just went flat due to the faulty alternator it should be ok, as for the power steering, do you know what failed, a hose, pump??? this will not in it self be a problem for the engine, but you will have to get all the power steering checked just to be sure its all survivable.
