Heater problem
1997 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive
----------------------------------------------------------------
When someone takes their car in to get it fix because the heater is blowing out cold air and the engine is overheating. When the mechanic is checking the cooling system shouldn't checking the water pump be part of that procedure?

Hi there,

You would normally inspect the water pump (if readily accessible) for weeping from the seal and bearing play, most cam belt driven pumps at inaccessible to do this so you rely on any leakage vigousa(pressure test) or abnormal noise, with surge tanks it is still possible to check for circulation, by removing a bleed hose or by pass hose. So there are a few ways pumps can be tested , and this would be a normal part of cooling system maintenance and fault inspection.
