1997 Ford Taurus transmission wont move car

car had been working alright.experienced hard shift once in awhile.made stop at light.take off nothing happens.has plenty of fluid(never used any)has been serviced several times.when moving stick from forward to rev feel slight twinge but nothing else.

Suspect internal tranny failure and tranny need to be rebuilt or replace
just to make sure that the link and shifter cable all working
engine off key on place shifter in gear (R or D ….)
try and crank the engine it should not start or crank in gear

next step is to check for codes
let me know what you have for codes

my 03 taurus done same thing. it was a broken pump shaft in tranny. I managed to find a used tranny and have it installed all for $800. I'm sure thats not good news but hope it helps.
