Starter problems

We replace the starter but when we went to put the positive cable back on the battery the starter started to crank without the engine being turned on. Did we put the starter on wrong?

It is unlikely that you did anything wrong unless you put the battery positive wire to both terminals of the starter. Basically the only way the starter will turn is if the trigger wire has 12 volts. So if you did not do this, then the solenoid on the replacement starter is shorted.

If this was not happening prior to the replacement then I would just take that starter back and have them replace it as they gave you a faulty one.
