1997 Ford Taurus slippage, won't go after getting to a stop

The other day I was driving home from work and had real bad slippage between 1st and 2nd and than 2nd and 3rd. I had gotten to a stop, the light turned green and I was unable to move anywhere. Turned the car off and back on, I was able to go. Next stop, happened again. Could this be a bad transmission or bad electrical problems?
