1997 Ford Taurus Replace key for 1997 Taurus GL

1997 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Automatic

My daughter has a 1997 Taurus GL and she has lost the key. The locksmith has hesitated making a new one because of the possibility that it has an electronic sensor (or something like that) on the key. Can you confirm for me whether this car had that feature or will a standard key work? Thank you

Most likely it does
when door open check in dash for theft light on or blinking


KEY INITIALIZATION
Key initialization erases all keys in memory. This provides reprogramming of PATS module in the case where all programmed keys were lost, or to remove any key codes from memory. This procedure also allows for reprogramming of system if ignition lock assembly requires replacement.


Lock smith should have the equipment to initialize the procedure
