Fuel Regulator part number and replacement process?

I have a 97 Ford Taurus SHO. The car would start but a couple seconds or so later it would stall out. We were told it was the fuel regulator. We tried one from a different year Taurus and it wasn't a SHO. Does that matter?

Here is the information you requested. To answer your question yes, you cannot use a different year or engine size fuel pressure regulator. After replacing the fuel pressure regulator with the correct one I suggest performing a fuel pressure test. Here is a tutorial showing how to perform a fuel pressure test:

I've also attached a picture below showing the correct fuel pressure specification for your car if you decide to perform a fuel pressure test when the repair is completed and the correct factory Ford part number for the fuel pressure regulator.
