There's a noise upon initial start up that sounds like it is coming from some where near where the exhaust ties in with the manifold. It sounds like a small leak, like air escaping from somewhere. It's really annoying. It is more prevalent at start up and significantly decreases as the engine gets up to normal operating temp. Where should I start to look?

Does it sound almost like a ticking?

Not exactly. More like a suppressed pressure sound. I can't pin it down to exactly where, just a general area.

If there is a leak where the exhaust and the manifold are located, many times you will see a black carbon build up where the leak is located. Check for that. Also, make sure everything is tight. What you have described sounds like an exhaust leak. Also, check for cracks in the exhaust manifold itself.

One last thing, check where the exhaust manifold attaches to the exhaust system. They can leak there too.
