Hello, my brother was driving 97 ford Taurus, V6 on a freeway, he was going about 70 mph,. When check engine light came on. Then he got a filling like engine lost power, so he started to poll over, and in another minet or so, the engine stoped and ge lost power steering and power brakes. As soon as he came to a stop he saw smog coming out from under the hood, he opened hood and saw that smog was comig out from around spark plugs, exhaust manifolds and expantion tank. When he called me, I told him to tow the car to my plase. I tried to start the car, starter was turning the cranck shaft and it sounded like timing belt was brocken, but this engine has timing chane, so I still opened the timing chane cover and it looks like the chane is OK. It has a play about 3/4 of an inch.

Hi peterfomichenko,

Thank you for the donation.

Should not be problem with the timing chain.

Since smoke was mentioned, I would sugggest checking the radiator and coolant level. You could have blown a gasket resulting in lack of compression thus the no start and feeling of a broken timing chain/belt.

The CEL came on so you should try to retrive the DTC with the aid of a scanner.

Check for sparks at plugs, fuel supply.
Next on the list would be to test the compression.
