My battery died and when I jump start it it will not hold the charge. How can I tell if the battery is actually dead or if it is a problem with the alternator?

HI there,

The battery should be bench charged and load tested, this is the only true test for battery condition, the alternator can be quickly tested with a volt meter, you want around 1.3-14.5 volts at the main terminal when running, this will depend on battery condition and load demand.
