This could be a lot of things. Let's see if we can narrow it down.
The fuel smell is due too unburned fuel one of your cylinders is not burning the fuel supplied to it.

A spark plug wire coil could cause this'or even a mechanical prob with the engine.

The stall and backfire sounds like a major vacum leak a hose or intake gasket or even egr valve.

I would check vacum first to be sure you don, t have a hose off
