1996 Ford Taurus Speed Sensor

Hello again, after continually working on this problem I have found out that I have electronic instrument panel without a speedometer cable. So my new question is....

What is this transmission speed sensor autozone part # SU8833 ? Also where is it located on the trans ? Does this part send speed indication to the instrument panel ? I'm sure my problem is centered around the no speed indication. This i think is causing the transmission not to shift. It never shifts out of 1st gear, unles the speedometer is working... HELP !!!!!!

The speed sensor that gives the signal to the speedometer is located on the right outboard end of the transmission on the top of the unit. It fits in from the left into a small housing that is attached to the top of the transmission. A bit tricky to reach, but have patience. This will most likely fix your problem. Before you buy a sensor, I suggest that you check to see that the connector is plugged into the sensor and that it is not corroded or damaged in any way.
