1996 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 147k miles

Is it best to work from the top or bottom of the car? My clutch on the compressor is stuck and it has a terrible noise!

What do you have for engine
I would think from under the car would be best check it
be very careful system under pressure and gas should be evacuated and recovered using an AC recovery system
