1996 Ford Taurus clunking noise during initial take off and

when I first start driving I hear a clunking noise on the right front side sort of like I ran over a cardboard box or something.This noise goes away after about a minute. And if I take off fast from a stop, the transmission slips but not if I take off slow and smooth.
