1994 Ford Taurus Two Wheel Drive Automatic 96000 miles

We changed my rack and pinon however it is spelt. When we finish this instead of the steering wheel turning smoothly it started jerk from one side to the other it almost broke my wrist the wheel was spinning so hard. I am not sure what I did. A hose did fall off my only thought that I put it on backwards. do the lines need to be bled or is there someting else I am missing?
