Transmission problem
1993 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive

Will a Taurus transmision that is 3.8 liter from 1995 fit a 1993 3.8 liter, or are the wire connections different? My Mother has been trying to get a transmission for her Taurus for a while now. She thought she had one until she found out that the wire connections were different. She is wantng me to find out for her.

The transmissions from 1993 to 1995 are interchangeable within the same engine sizeand transmission type. The 3.8 and 3.0 have different bolt patterns. Also, the 1994 and 1995 may have the newer design AX4N transmission, which is different dimensionally as wll as electrically.
There can be a difference in the electrical connections, with 1993 to 1995 using a single white connector on the top of the transmission. 1991 and 1992 used TWO connectors - one on top and one on the side. Internally and electronically, the 1992 to 1995 are the same. Some early 1993 cars may have had two connectors. Also. you can use a later transmission in an earlier car with an adapter harness that is available from Ford. I can give you the part number if you need it.

Hope this helps.
