I have a two-fold problem, they may be related or not. One is when I press the gas pedal, usually from being stopped or slowed down to nearly a stop, the car seems to hesitate/sputters at times. Also, while driving it kind of jerks a little. I thought the second issues may have been the distributor cap & rotor, which I replaced but did not help the issue. Then one time today I went to start the car and sputtered a little bit & did not start. When I tried again it started but was sputtering a little.

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
