I have a 1992 ford taurus that likes to sound like its about to kill when in park. The RPM's go so low the whole car shakes. But when i get it in gear (that is, when i can get it there without stalling) it seems to run completely normal. Now, after driving for 20 minutes, ill put it in park and the "up and down" idle starts again.

I put in new plugs, wires, cap and alternator. nothing. I've been reading a bunch of posts that resemble this problem and it sounds like replacing the "fuel filter, checking for vacoum leak, checking pcv valve, etc." dosen't do a dang thing.

I'm not some moron who doesn't know anything about vehicles. I've rebuilt my truck from the ground up. But this problem is SERIOUSLY keeping me up at night.

Any input will help people. So if something has worked for you, that would be fantastic.

Have you checked the idle air control valve (IAC), throttle position sensor (TPS), EGR? Has the check engine light come on?
