Perform the following checks:
Engine coolant level.
Cooling fan operation, wiring harness connections.
Coolant leaks.
Water/anti-freeze mixture.
Radiator condition.
Collapsed/restricted radiator hoses.
Radiator pressure cap.
Overflow system.

The radiator in your car is probably 18 years old, and on top of that is a single row radiator that is probably plugging up. You could do a combustion test on your rad. To see if you're head gaskets are ok. If so, I'd go on ebay and buy a dble row rad $50 delivered (I just put one in). May have to change the cooling fan, its prolly 18 yrs old also. Or, you could just change your thermostat and hope you get lucky. Btw- If your engine overheats high enough, it can cause you to lose all your brakes. If you notice your brake pedal starting to drop lower. They may fail. Happened to me.
