Electrical problem
1989 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1989 Ford Taurus. Having a problem with the left side brake light. Does not want to work. I have replaced the bulb. The socket is getting power because the bulb lights up when the head lights are on but when you press the brake pedal the brake light will not light up. I am wondering if you can tell me what wire of the three that go into that bulb socket works the brake light so i can see if there is a break in the line. Would appreciate all the help I can get. Thank you.
