Parking brake light

I have 1998 Ford ranger 4.0 v6 with 42,000 miles on it and i would like to know when i set the parking brake the light wont come on and some times it will how can i fix this

If iset the brake half way the light does the same thing could it be the sensor on the pedal or something else.
