O/D OFF light flashing

After driving my 1996 Ranger w/159,000 miles for a few miles, my O/D OFF light flashes. Any ideas?

Make sure you have enough automatic transmission fluid. That usually seems to be the problem when that happens on my '97 Ranger. If that's not the problem you may need to take it in for service. I think I read somewhere that the transmission does not report errors to the ODB so perhaps Ford uses the O/D light flashing as a transmission error code.
