2006 Ford Ranger Key repeats

This is a general question about something that happened.
How is it possible for the exact same key to open tje door of 2 different vehicles and turn both vehicles on?

I would have to say they are really close to duplicates. If the tumblers are worn on either vehicle, that can happen.
