ford ranger makes clicking noise and takes about three seconds to start

When it is clicking, the engine is not cranking?
IF so,
Sounds like the starter is going bad or there are poor connections at the starter. Check and clean the connections. IF the problem still exists and power is getting to the starter solenoid, then you prolly need a starter.
