Engine problem
2004 Ford Ranger Engine Size unknown Four Wheel Drive Automatic 187000 miles

My Ford Ranger has ran fine since the day I bought it. Today I was Christmas shopping. I got in my truck after leaving a store and it would turn over but not start. It was as if I was running out of gas. Which I had plenty. It continued to do this so I ended up having to have it towed back to my house. What could be the problem? Someone said it could be a fuel filter others said it could be a fuel pump. Please HELP! Thanks

First need to check for fuel pressure and spark. If no fuel, remove right kick panel and verify that the fuel pump inertia switch wasnt accidentally tripped, this will kill the fuel pump. It is described in your owners manual. If it is ok then test for power out of it to the fuel pump, if that is ok, then the pump is bad

Fuel pressure requires a manual gauge installed on the fuel rail schrader valve, do you hear the pump turn on with the key? Spark you will need a little help with, need to remove the plug wire at the spark plug. Using a spark tester (very inexpensive and available at any parts store) crank the engine and look for spark
