2003 Ford Ranger ran out of gas, and now my truck sputters

i ran out of gas this morning in my ranger, after refueling, the truck now sputters and wont run over 3300 rpm..check engine light blinks, and now is on constant

usualy when you run a tank out of fuel the pump runs very hot because it isnt being cooled anymore. and with highermileage vehicles that is just enough to cause them to burn up. chances are you need a new pump or you sucked up dirt in the system.
