My ranger shutters and stalls when I go over 3000 rpm or when the temperature is below zero until the engine warms up. It sounds like a bearing squeel for a second during the shutter and then clicks and continues along just fine. No trouble lights come on when this happens and I have recently changed my fuel filter and spark plugs. I'd like to get this fixed before it breaks down. I was also wonder where my PCV valve is. The 2003 model isn't addressed in Chiltons or Hanes manuals.

Ok first I need to know which V-6 you have to answer the pcv question. Now as for the other question about the noise. I must ask do you have your defrost on when the noise is there? If so turn off you heater system and check it again and let me know if it still does it ok. Also let me know where you feel the noise is coming from is it coming from the engine or any of the idler or tensioner pulley etc. Get back to me and we will go from there.

My Ranger has the 3.0 L V6. My owners manual and the auto parts store have 2 different PCV valve numbers listed. As for the major problem, my heater does not affect it at all. It sounds like a bearing squeel when I can hear it. It is strange because it only happens over 3000 rpm or when it's very cold (well below zero). I recently replaced the belt and all pulleys felt OK. There was a little slop in the power steering pulley but it didn't feel excessive. Could a bad bearing stall the engine without causing my "check engine" light to come on? It really takes a nose dive when this happens but it only does it for a second. Thanks for the help.

Here is a pic of the vacuum system and the pcv valve vacuum is included hope this helps with finding it. Let me know how it goes and if your problem is still there let me know and we will see what else could be wrong.
