The engine knoks some times. Mechanic says its a rod but the oil ligt does not come on. One of our trucks had a rod problem it it knocked only when we let off of gas. Could this be something in the engine and not a rod?

The best way to find out is an actual check of the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge could mean oil pump and engine bearings
