My 2003 ford ranger is spewing out black smoke but only sometimes. When I idle too long at a red light I feel my truck start to shake ad wobble and when I hit the gas it feels like theirs no power and then as I keep hitting the gas it will all of a sudden come back. What is that? Again only sometimes, usually it runs fine.

Probable causes of an engine running rich are as follows:

1.Excessive fuel pressure can be cause by restricted fuel return line or defective fuel pressure regulator.
2.Defective Oxygen Sensors.
3.Leaking injectors and fuel pressure regulator.
4.Coolant temperature sensor out of calibration.
5.Restricted air intake system.
