My son's 2003 Ford Ranger hubs lock up in cold weather after saitting for a while. After driving four a while in 4 wheel drive and everything is okay, he stops and pareks tuck for a awhile usually over a couple of hours.

When jhe comes back and starts it up and trys to drive off the some of the wheels are locked usually 1 or 2 not always the same ones.

Could it be the 4 wheel drive locking hubs?

He ca usually get them to disingae by rocking back and forth and featheruing the clutch but its really a pain. Only in cold wheather.

If he uses 2 wheel drive he never has the problem.

Are they automatic locking hubs or manual locking? Also, have you ever serviced them?

They are automatic hubs, if they have been serviced it has been a long time.

Chances are they need to be removed, cleaned, and regreased. It sounds like they are sticking.

Let me know if that helps, and thanks for using 2carpros. Com.
