Hi there,
I feel that all you need to do is flush the cooling system and replaced coolant. I would remove the thermostat (fit a new one while your at it) remove top & bottom radiator hoses, and disconnect the heater hoses, give the heater core a good flush out, don't use very high pressure just the garden tap will do. Back flush the radiator and the block, when every thing is flowing clean, check and replace any hoses that look swollen, hard, or cracked, and replace coolant with recommended type, start up with heater on, when up to temp turn off and feel that the heater hoses are warm, put the cap on or best to check for leaks with a pressure tester if you can get hold of one, go for a drive and check for leaks, re check coolant level next day when cold.
Good luck
