2001 Ford Ranger shifting

I have an automatic ford ranger and when i go to shift into gear it wont shift even when i ave my foot on the brake..what could be wrong?

First, check for brake lights, the interlock won't work if they don't...then get back to me...many tests involved, most have to do with the brake on/off switch. and the actuator...
