2001 Ford Ranger Knocking

ran only 15 seconds knocking shut down by me told needs new engine in less than 1 hour diagnosies charged is this possible or more simply a valve spring and attement to rip off a women.

this ford ranger does not have valve springs ...
could be numerous reasons for a knocking noise .. I would get a second opinion of someone who can actually inspect the vehicle before spending the amount of money your talking about ??

VALVE CLEARANCE CHECK
NOTE:Hydraulic valve adjusters are used. No adjustment is necessary. If valve seat/face has been serviced or worn parts are suspected, check valve clearance.
