2001 Ford Ranger engine knocks

ive got a 01 ranger 4x4 4.0 SOHC manual trans. i drowned it in a pond too deep for the intake, im pretty sure that i cracked a ring or a cylinder. my question is, is there any way to swap my engine with a reg 4.0 OHV and is there any other engines i could swap mine for? theres a diesel engine on ebay right now and there sayin that the mitsubishi manufactured engine fits into my truck, with no tranny swap. what can you tell me?
