I am trying to determine how to troubleshoot an A/C problem. When I was driving the other day with the A/C on it all of a sudden stop blowing cold, at the same time my temp guage pegged to the hot side. I stopped and turned the A/C off and the temp guage went back to normal. I ran it with the A/C again and the same thing happened several more times on the same trip. My fist thought might be to replace the thermostat. When I went looking for it didn't jump right out where it might be, I couldn't find it.
I was wondering what you thought the problem sounded like and if it is the thermostat where it might be, I am a novice mechanic and can ususally
figure it out. The engine is a 4 clyinder 2.3L 16 valve.
Also, does this engine have a PCV, I have never been able to find it either?

your problem is a inoperative cooling fan motor. the fan cools the radiator and also is needed to cool the ac condenser. this is the only thing that could cause both things to happen at the same time.
