2001 Ford Ranger 4 wheel drive not engageing

2001 Ford Ranger V6 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 50000 miles

When i turn the selector switch to any wheel drive mode nothing happens. I checked fuses they are all ok. What should i be checking next?
