2000 Ford Ranger Pinging

My 2000 Ranger with a 3.0 V6 "pings" when I accelerate. Tried higher octane and checking the engine timing. Could it be a bad sensor? If so, which one? Overall, the truck runs great, I can just hear it pinging when I step on the gas.
