My 2000 ranger has been a rollercoaster ride when it comes to problems!! My transmission (5R55E) hard shifts into second gear, and if i punch the accelerator it will smooth shift into second and then erratically shift into third. My overdrive light also blinks when these events happen. The light will go off if i turn the vehicle off. I am forced to drive with the overdrive off to avoid the light from blinking. I have replaced the ABS speed sensor, the O2 sensors, the AIC (air idle control), the plugs, wires, coilpack and have cleaned the MAF sensor. I have no vacuum leaks or unplugged sensors. The trans fluid is full and is the correct color. The fluid smells sligthly burnt? PLEASE HELP!!?? I am at my wits end with this truck!! Thank you!!

None of the items replaced are related to the problem. What you have to do is when the OD light is flashing, have the computer scanned for trouble codes. My guess is there is a bad shift sensor or the trans control module is going bad. If you have it scanned, it should point you in the direction of the problem.
