I recently bought a 99 Ford Ranger XLT. It is in excellent shape. On the drive home from the car lot a faint knocking could be felt in the bottom of the steering wheel and heard coming from the front of the vehicle. This did not occur on the practice drive when purchasing the vehicle, and today it is not doing it. The truck drove fine when it was making the knocking noise and it did not appear to impact steering or direction of the vehicle.

I took it to a mechanic today and of course it drove fine and did not make the knocking noise nor could you feel any knocking in the steering wheel. The mechanic thought it might need an alignment kit. What do you think?
