Does the large end of the tie rod simply unscrrew? Are there any special tools I need to hold end of rack?

Loosen the locknut behind the outer tie rod, then just unscrew it counting the number of turns it takes to get it off, remove the dust boot, yes there is an inner tie rod tool, Autozone will rent you the tool and refund the deposit when you return it. There is a small push pin type lock, remove it with side cutters, then unscrew the inner tie rod with the tool, reverse these steps to install new one! After inner is installed dont forget to tap in the new lock pin!
