My son has a 1999 Ford Ranger, the check engine light came on and the codes read the EGR valve. We replaced the EGR valve and the light came back with the same code. Disconnected the battery to try to reset computer and again the check engine light came on and the same codes on the computer. The economy does not seem to be what it should. Any ides?

remove the intake and clean the carbon from the passages to the EGR. this is what causes the EGR valve to fail and the code to come on.

We did remove the EGR and ran the engine without the EGR in an attempt to blow out anything in the tubes. Will try taking if off and see if we can remove any carbon. What about the poor fuel mileage?

that is caused by the restricted airflow through the passages.. you can't blow the carbon build up out..it must be scrubbed out.
