Transmission problem
1999 Ford Ranger Four Wheel Drive Manual

I am having problems with my Ranger, It is making a grinding noise and is hard to shift into gear, especially first gear. The noise is not a constant, it is getting worse with time. Sometimes at a stop light, I can not get it into gear, and I have to turn off the truck, and restart the engine to allow me to get it into gear. The grinding noise is only present when I am sitting at an idle. Do I need a new clutch assembly or what?

sounds like the clutch is low on fluid. double check the reservoir for fluid. if you pump up the pedal does the clutch feel tighter?
