Truck stalls as soon as it is put into drive, and is making a loud ticking noise while idiling. It will go into reverse and neutral, without stalling.

So first off when it stalls does it start right back up? Is the engine light on?
The noise which engine are you running 3.0 or 4.0 V-6? Is it like a tapping sound from the upper end like under the valve covers? Use a metal rod or long screw driver and put it on the valve cover and put you ear to it and listen to it and let me know what it sounds like to the best that you can. Get back to me and we will go from there.

Thank you for checking. A family member went under the truck and adjusted something underneath, though I am not able to explain what he did, the truck went into drive and ran. But it is still stalling out continously, though now it now can be put into drive without instantly stalling. Not sure what to do at this point, other than to take it into a repair shop.

Ok I would check the TPS and the IAC (Idle air control motor). If you have a digital multi meter and feel comfortable enough doing a couple of tests we can test those parts. Let me know what you want to do.
